How long have you been connected to Tarrant County?

I am a transplant to Tarrant County from Corpus Christi, TX.  I moved to the Metroplex for a change and opportunity in the 1986.  I graduated Bauder Fashion College in 1988 in Arlington, TX.  I later graduated Summa Cum Laude from The International Institute of Trichology in 1998 in Madison, Alabama.What was your first ever job? 


What was your first ever job?

My first job was as a part-time cashier at KFC in Corpus Christi, TX.




What was your first project working in your current industry?

My first project working in my current industry, was opening the 1st Trichology Training Center in the USA in Arlington, TX in 1999.



How is your business or organization making Tarrant County Better?

My business is making Tarrant County Better by serving the community affected with alopecia and scalp disorders for over 37 years. We have had countless success cases of men, women and children thru testimonials and before and after pictures. Our philanthropy began in 2012 with our annual scholarship Carnival Cruise With A Purpose benefiting Cayla Staples.  We continue by ‘Paying It Forward" an annual alopecia essay scholarship to a teenager affected with alopecia.



What are some immediate projects you are working on?

Some immediate projects I am working on include continued alopecia awareness thru my radio show platform, annual alopecia scholarship, continuing to teach global seminars, such as Bahamas, Barbados, Beaumont, Austin and Arlington.  Lastly guest speaking opportunities.


In your current industry who was your first mentor? And, what advice did they give you that you still use today?

My first Trichology mentor was the late Dr. Hattie Thompson, Co-Founder of The International Institute of Trichology.  Dr. Thompson’s advice that I still use today is when you learn, then teach someone else.



What is an important quality you look for in your relationships with others?

One very important quality I look for in my relationship with others is honesty.



What unique strategy do you use to expand your professional network that others do not?

A unique strategy I use to expand my professional network that others do not is consistency.



How do you prep for an important business meeting and/or event?

I prep for an important business messing and/or event by first finding out who the audience will be. Sometimes the business meetings are only business professionals attending, and some events are only consumers. This makes a difference with my power point presentation, hand outs, and hands on participation.  


As a busy professional, how do you unwind?

I love to unwind from my busy day with a massage, watching television, movie theatre,  going to King Spa, walking in Lake Arlington Parks or dinner and good music at Button’s.



If you could interview anyone, who would that be and why?

If I could interview Mr. Tyler Perry, would be an absolute joy.  His business experience, trials, triumps, tenacity, tremendous business success, and advice to me as an entrepreneur would be priceless.



If you could travel and stay anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

One place in the world I would love to travel and stay would be Cape Town, Africa, but only a short term of 6 months.  I have always had a desire to visit this part of Africa and observe the businesses and culture.



What is some advice you have for others who want to make Tarrant County Better?

Some advice I have for others who want to make Tarrant County Better is help at least one young person trying to make something out of their life. ‘Paying it Forward’ is very rewarding.



Is there anything else you would like to share?

One last thing I would like to share is to not judge a person as soon as you meet them, as many people do.  You do not know their journey until you ask them.
